The American Moslem Society Youth Committee
The Youth Committee of the American Moslem Society is a volunteer-base committee specializes in events and activities that focus on youth. The goals of the committee are to build strong youth individuals who understand and practice Islam, and convey the message of Islam to people of other faiths. It is our goal also to create a safe environment for youth to learn and practice their hobbies and protect them from being victims of violence, drugs, and other types of crimes. To achieve these goals, the committee sponsors many activities and events through the year. Here is a summary of these activities. The youth committee is divided into brothers and sisters groups.
Summer Picnics:
The Youth Committee organizes summer picnics for youth only to relief them from daily stress and give them a chance to socialize with each other in a safe environment. These events take places in local parks. During these picnics, youth enjoy several sports activities, and competitions.
Volunteer-Day:
The committee organizes several activities to encourage youths to volunteer and serve their community. One of these volunteering events is cleaning day. Several events take place in the summer to clean the Masjid and the area around it.
Graduation Ceremony:
In an attempt to encourage our youth to continue their education and pursue higher degrees, the committee holds an event every year in June to recognize and honor high school graduates for both males and females.
Group Fasting and Mabeet:
The activities include that youth fast in certain days such as the day of Arafat and Ashoura. Also, some activities including mabeet (staying in the Masjid), in which youth learn Islamic values through prayers and lectures.
Spring Youth Event:
In each spring, the Youth Committee organizes a large scale event, where hundreds of youth participate in this event. The event includes educational and recreational activities. Special guests and keynote speakers attend this event to give lectures and directions during the activities of this event.
Distributing Gifts and Toys During Eid Celebration:
In both Eid Al-fitr and Al-adha, the committee participates in distributing gifts and toys to young boys and girls to enhance the importance of these Islamic events. Hundreds of young boys and girls benefit from this event.
